Hi, I’m Chris.
I started mountain biking in 2016, and like a lot of riders, I began with a simple bike and a lot of curiosity. My first mountain bike was a GT Aggressor, and not long after that I picked up a used Trek Fuel.
I wasn’t trying to become a pro rider. I just wanted to ride more, stay fit, spend time outside and have fun on the trails.
In May 2018, I entered a 33 km mountain bike race. I had a great time, but toward the end of the race I got completely exhausted, foggy and confused. Later, I learned there was a name for it:
Bonking.
That experience pushed me to start learning more about mountain bike training, nutrition, pacing, bike setup and maintenance. The more I learned, the more I realized how overwhelming mountain biking can feel when you’re still figuring things out.
That’s why I started Sports Cyclist.
This blog is here to help everyday mountain bikers build confidence, ride smarter and enjoy the sport more.
You’ll find beginner-friendly guides on:
- Mountain bike maintenance
- Trail riding skills
- Bike setup
- Gear choices
- Fitness and endurance
- Nutrition for longer rides
- Practical tips from real riding experience
I’m not here to make mountain biking more complicated than it needs to be. My goal is to break things down in a simple, useful way so you can spend less time guessing and more time riding.
Whether you’re checking your tire pressure before a ride, learning how to lube your chain, choosing your first gear upgrades or trying to avoid bonking on a longer trail, I hope Sports Cyclist helps you feel more prepared.
Thanks for stopping by.
See you on the trail,
Chris
